Advancing machine learning has been central to Sony's strategy for boosting graphics on the PlayStation 5 and upcoming devices. The PlayStation 5 Pro was engineered with a new graphics processor, quicker memory, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), a proprietary AI upscaling technology that allows the system to operate games at reduced resolutions before enhancing them to 4K. In March, the company introduced an upgraded PSSR version to further optimize the Pro's capabilities. Additionally, Sony is collaborating with AMD on Project Amethyst, a multifaceted partnership aimed at refining ray tracing and upscaling for next-generation consoles.
